For those of you who were unaware, the WLB is what we, here at the Chronicles, politely refer to as a "fussy eater". He has been known to accept a treat from a stranger, and then just open his mouth to let it fall out upon discovering it was the Wrong Kind of Treat. He will let food that is not up to his both lofty and mysterious standards rot in his food dish. He eats only grain free kibble made of bison and venison, moistened by gourmet canned food, and frequently turns his nose up to it. However, we have discovered Merrick's New Zealand Summer, which the WLB will try to eat as it falls out of the can, not even waiting for it to be served to him in the dish.
So, like the KING, who only ever endorsed Krispy Kreme Donuts, The WLB is proud to endorse:
Merrick Pet Foods New Zealand Summer, the ONLY canned food endorsed by the WLB.
Chronicles of the WLB
Welcome to the Chronicles of the WLB (Weird Little Beagle). A few years ago, my girlfriend and I were in the market, as it were, for a canine. We found Hawk, a Weird Little Beagle-ish mix at a local rescue. He has abandonment issues, although he's much better now, hates storms, and based on his teeth is part Alligator. This is his ongoing story.

E-mail funnies
It just hit me!
My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. He has his food prepared for him. He can eat whenever he wants, 24/7/365. His meals are provided at no cost to Him. He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise. For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him. He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.. If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep. He receives these accommodations absolutely free. He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day. I was just thinking about all this,
And suddenly it hit me in the head, like a ton of bricks:
My dog is a Democrat!

Chronicles of the WLB 2011-04-04 (Dog Owner's adventures edition)
So, I have custody of the WLB (Hawk) for the next few weeks. Around 1500hrs, I left work to pick up some dog food and walk him, planning to return to work post haste. For those of you who are unaware, the WLB LOATHES stormy weather. As luck would have it, we were under a tornado watch. I picked up his food, and prepared to head the half block or so to the apartment from the pet supply store. As I enetred my Ford F-150, the havens opened up and a torrent that would have given Noah pause fell from the skies. Not good.
I approached my apartment's rear entrance only to find it blocked off by a police cruiser. Circling back to the front, I discovered an emergency services vehicle, several news vans, a line of cars waiting to enter teh complex, and what turned out to be in excess of 30 law enforcement vehicles from no fewer than 5 law enforcement agencies.
Eventually, I was allowed in, took the very recalcitrant WLB for a VERY short walk in the rain and fed him.
All is well now. But it made for an interesting story.

WHNT reports:
A man is now in custody, after a standoff that lasted about three hours at an apartment complex on Lawson Ridge Drive in Huntsville.
The man barricaded himself in a unit at Weston Ranch Apartment Homes. The standoff started around 1:20pm, and ended peacefully just before 4pm, just as heavy rains moved in to the area. The apartment complex is on the Huntsville/Madison line, just off Highway 72.
About 40 law enforcement officers were involved in the standoff, including Huntsville Police, Alabama State Troopers, Madison County Sheriff's deputies and the SWAT Team.
Huntsville Police say around 1:20pm, they received an anonymous phone call about a man sitting in a car at the apartment complex, listening to loud music, holding a shotgun. An off-duty officer responded to the call and had a short encounter with the man. Police say the suspect aimed his gun at the security officer, ran away, threw away his gun, and then barricaded himself in his apartment.
The officer then called for assistance and several agencies responded. Negotiators talked the man in to surrendering peacefully, which he did just before 4pm.
The man was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. He faces possible charges. Police have not released the man's name yet.
Police kept people clear from the scene, including a school bus that pulled up to drop off students from Providence School. Those students returned to the school, according to Keith Ward, spokesperson for Huntsville City Schools.

Chronicles of the WLB (Weird Little Beagle) 2011-04-03
I had to go into work for a few hours. When I returned, WLB was very excited to see me. I took WLB for a walk, after which he got a treat. I then had to visit the bathroom myself, once I had completed my necessary duties, I realized WLB had gone missing. It's a 2-bedroom apartment so, there's not many places he could have gone. I thought i had see him headed towards the balcony, and wondered if he was hidden behind the giant beanbag chair near the door, but no. Then I checked the closet in the spare bedroom, as he seems to like to hang out there sometimes, no joy. Perplexed, I look under all the tables in the apartment, still no luck. Finally, I wander back into the master bedroom, and; lo and behold, there he is in the BeagleCave (his crate)!
We then started playing fetch with OrangeBob # 17, but after a few minutes, I was deemed an unworthy playmate, and we shifted into auto-fetch mode, where he brings OB17 to me, grunts, then runs off with OB17 in his mouth only to return with him in a matter of minutes.
